National Cadet Week 2026: Celebrating Cumbria's Inspiring Cadets

The Cumbria Lieutenancy is supporting National Cadet Week, taking place from the 5th to 11th October, celebrating the dedication, achievements and positive contribution of cadets across Cumbria.

Cadet organisations play a vital role in helping young people develop confidence, leadership, resilience and teamwork, while fostering a strong sense of community and public service. From volunteering at local events and supporting civic occasions to developing valuable life skills and friendships, cadets make a lasting difference within communities across the county.

A key part of the Lieutenancy's longstanding relationship with the cadet movement is the annual appointment of the Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets. Selected in recognition of their commitment, leadership and exemplary service, these outstanding young people act as ambassadors for their organisations and support the Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria at a range of significant ceremonial and civic engagements throughout the year.

Throughout National Cadet Week, the Cumbria Lieutenancy will be highlighting the inspiring stories and achievements of cadets from across the county, while also welcoming the newly appointed Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets for 2026/27. The week will showcase the important role cadets play in supporting the Lord-Lieutenant at investitures, remembrance services, community celebrations and royal visits, helping to represent both the cadet movement and the county with distinction.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mr Alexander Scott, said

"National Cadet Week provides a wonderful opportunity to recognise the dedication, enthusiasm and commitment shown by cadets across Cumbria. Cadet organisations offer young people invaluable opportunities to develop skills, confidence and leadership qualities that will benefit them throughout their lives, while encouraging a strong sense of service to others.

I am continually impressed by the remarkable young people I meet through the cadet movement. Their commitment, professionalism and community spirit are a credit to themselves, their organisations and the county, and I am delighted to celebrate their achievements during this special week."

Throughout the week, the Cumbria Lieutenancy will be sharing the stories of cadets from across the county, highlighting their achievements and showcasing the positive impact they have within their communities. The celebrations will also provide an opportunity to introduce the newly appointed Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets for 2026/27 and recognise the valuable contribution made by cadet organisations in developing the next generation of leaders.
