Voters in Penrith have until 10pm to cast a vote in todays Penrith Neighbourhood Plan referendum.
Six polling stations across the town opened at 7am this morning (Thursday 28th November) with over 10,000 voters eligible to vote in the referendum on the Penrith Neighbourhood Plan.
Some voters had already voted via postal vote ahead of todays referendum but turnout is reported to be low across the six polling stations today.
All votes from the postal and votes cast in person at polling stations in the town will be counted this evening by election offcials of Westmorland and Furness Council.
The count will get underway shortly after 10pm with the final result known before midnight or early Friday morning.
The winning decision of Yes or No to the referendum question will be decided by which option has received over 50% of the total votes cast in the referendum.
We will bring the results of todays referendum in Penrith as they are announced.
