Driver Arrested In Penrith After Public Reports Concerns Over Driving

A driver has been arrested in Penrith after a member of the public reported concerns about the way a vehicle was being driven.

Police were alerted on Saturday afternoon and, following the report, members of the Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team attended and spoke to the driver.

The driver provided a positive roadside test for cannabis and was subsequently arrested.

Blood samples were taken and the man has since been released under investigation while police await the results.

Police have praised the member of the public who reported their concerns, saying their actions helped officers identify and speak to the driver.

Driving while unfit through drugs or alcohol is one of the offences included in the police's 'Fatal Four' — four behaviours identified as major contributors to serious and fatal collisions.

Police are reminding motorists that if they see someone driving dangerously and the incident is happening at the time, they should call 999.

If the incident has already happened, concerns can be reported to police by calling 101 or through the Cumbria Police website.
