It may sound like the story line from a 1970’s carry on movie or a bad hotel experience in Spain but staff in the new £8.3m Voreda House in Penrith that was opened last month by Westmorland and Furness Council are facing a few issues with the building.
Staff have been sitting in coats at work in the open plan offices over the last few days due to the building been cold with some staff now opting to work from home rather than shivering in the £8.3 million pound office block one staff member has told us is “like working in a fridge.”
Issues started on Tuesday with staff toilets and handwashing facilities stopping working on the 1st and 2nd floors of Voreda House with only one toilet remaining operational on the ground floor that today is now also not flushing and leaking.
Further issues developed today with the rain moving in over Penrith leading to the buildings lift shaft turned into an indoor water feature with water heard pouring down the shaft as staff used the lift that runs down the side of the new build.
Westmorland and Furness Council have been asked for comment on the issues with its new £8.3million Voreda House.
A spokesperson for the council said: “There were some issues with the facilities this morning. A contractor was called out and the problem resolved by the afternoon.
“We believe solving the original problem caused water to get into the lift sump. Once this has dried out the lift will be back in action.”
“We thank our staff for their patience and understanding while these issues were resolved.”
