Residents have vented their anger and concerns over the lack of maintenance around the now closed Penrith Town Hall by Westmorland and Furness Council. Penrith Town Hall closed on the 14th of June when the council moved its services and staff around the corner into the controversial £8.3 million Voreda House.
Penrith Town Hall closed in June facing an uncertain future with the council yet to decide the future of the building that could see it potentially repurposed or sold along with Mansion House that also closed in June.
Residents have now raised the issue of the lack of maintenance around the outside of the town hall with weeds and nettles growing one local resident’s claims are now ‘2 foot high’ along with dead flowers and broken benches.
Some residents have also taken to social media to vent their anger at the condition of the town hall one saying ‘it’s not good enough’ and others claiming its ‘become an eyesore’.
Another asked why Westmorland and Furness Council has ‘let the old town hall get into this dreadful mess’.
Westmorland and Furness Council was approached for comment on the concerns raised this week by residents on the lack of maintenance around the town hall since the closure in June.
A spokesperson for Westmorland and Furness Council said: "We fully understand the importance of continuing to care for the area around the town hall, maintaining the grounds and ensuring the security of the building.
"Contractors are employed to ensure that vegetation around the town hall building is regularly maintained and we will address any issues with them and look to make good on any repairs."
