Plans have been submitted to expand the Flusco Wood at
Newbiggin with the addition of 32 new holiday lodges alongside the existing
site.
The application proposes extending the holiday park onto
almost two hectares of adjoining agricultural land. Alongside the new lodges,
the scheme includes internal roads, parking, drainage, landscaped open space
and a network of footpaths linking into the existing holiday park.
The new lodges would be single-storey and finished in timber
cladding to match the existing accommodation. Each would have its own driveway
and parking space, while the layout has been designed to follow the natural
contours of the site.
Visitors would continue to use the existing entrance from
the road between Flusco and Newbiggin, with no new access onto the highway
proposed. The development would also connect to an extension of the holiday
park that has already been granted planning permission.
As part of the proposals, an area of informal open space and
a walking route would be created, linking with the nearby public footpath to
provide a circular walk for guests. Additional native planting and wildflower
areas also form part of the scheme.
In support of the application, the applicant says the
extension would build on the existing holiday park, make use of established
infrastructure and help support Cumbria's visitor economy. The planning
statement argues the development complies with local tourism policies and says
the site's location close to the A66 and M6 makes it well placed to serve
visitors travelling to the area.
Westmorland and Furness Council will determine the
application following a public consultation. The consultation is now open, with
the plans available to view on the council's planning portal under application
reference 2026/0454/FPA.
