Penrith's volunteer-run community radio station, Eden FM, is celebrating its 10th birthday today. The station first began full-time broadcasting on 107.5 FM on Monday, 23 June 2014.
Eden FM was awarded a full-time community radio licence by Ofcom in 2013, following a series of short-term test broadcasts. Broadcasting initially commenced from its studio and transmission site located at Ullswater Road in 2013.
The campaign for a local community radio station in Penrith was launched in June 2010 by Lee Quinn, who remains at the helm, playing music and leading the team of volunteers. As Eden FM celebrates its 10th birthday, it also embarks on a new five-year licence period as a community station.
Since its launch in 2013, the station has continued to provide a daily mix of music, conversation, and local information from various studio locations around Penrith. In 2022, Eden FM relocated to its new studio and transmission site at Newton Rigg, preparing for its next five years of broadcasting.
Ofcom renewed Eden FM’s community radio licence in March this year, allowing the station to continue its programming on 107.5 FM until June 2029, as well as via online streaming.
The team at Penrith.Town extends their congratulations to the volunteers at Eden FM on this significant milestone. Happy 10th Birthday, Eden FM
