Penrith Town Council is recruiting to fill another newly created staff position, with applications now open for a new full-time Council Support Officer.
The role, which carries a salary of £29,064 to £31,022 a year, has recently been added to the council's staffing structure and comes with Local Government Pension Scheme membership, flexible and remote working, generous annual leave and funded professional development.
The council says that the successful applicant will provide administrative and business support across the town council, act as the first point of contact for residents, community groups and partner organisations, support the council's planning functions as Deputy Planning Committee Clerk, help organise civic and community events and assist with the management of council assets and local projects.
According to the council’s recruitment advert for the new role, the council is looking for someone with strong administrative and IT skills who is seeking to build a long-term career in local government. Following a six-month probationary period, the successful candidate will have access to mentoring, professional development and sector-recognised qualifications.
The job description also includes supporting councillors and the Mayor, taking minutes at meetings, maintaining council noticeboards, inspecting council-owned assets and allotments, responding to enquiries from the public and helping promote the council through its social media and digital communications.
The recruitment pack says Penrith Town Council has expanded its responsibilities since it was established in 2015 and intends to continue growing the range of services it provides to the community.
Once the new post is filled, the town council will employ seven staff, following the resignation of two members of staff earlier this year.

The town council workforce currently consists of a Town Clerk, Community Services Manager, Events Manager, Responsible Finance Office, Planning Clerk/Solicitor, and Business Services Manager.
