Penrith’s annual Christmas tree outside Penrith Town Hall has taken its place in front of the Town Hall this morning ahead of Saturdays Christmas sparkle event in Penrith.
The tree donated annually by a local business to the town, has been a fixture in Penrith’s Christmas celebrations for decades.
The installation of the tree occurred just after 9 a.m. this morning (Thursday, 14th November), following a delay caused after Westmorland and Furness Council, initially refused permission for the tree’s placement outside the Town Hall due to the town hall no longer been used by the council and currently closed.
The council had offered to allow the tree to be placed outside Voreda House instead.
Although the tree is now standing outside Penrith Town Hall, the council will not be providing electricity to illuminate the lights this year due to the town hall been unused currently prompting the local business to explore alternative solutions in an effort to ensure the tree sparkles with the rest of the lights in Penrith on Saturday.
The town’s annual Christmas lights will be officially switched on this Saturday.
