A survey and plans for a Penrith Pump Track have received a lot of public support Evolve Penrith who are working on plans to deliver a pump track in Penrith have said.
An online Survey that runs until the 19th of September received over 300 positive responses in the first 48 hours of the survey opening.
Evolve Penrith has said that they were blown away by the amount of support and have said they have also had a number of emails offering support in the project.
The group has recently received initial designs and quotes for a professional designed and built pump track and held meetings with a local land owner over a potential site and funding but the group has said “ We are also exploring other potential sites and funding opportunities” “One site not on our initial list that the survey has identified is the potential of space in Castle Park. We are now planning to invite Westmorland and Furness Council to meet with us to discuss this options potential.”
Some of the feedback Evolve Penrith have had so far include: “A great way for folk to socialise in a healthy positive way.”
“Brilliant idea for the kids. Our boys on our estates are mad on bikes but there is nowhere for them to go. They’ve spent many months trying to make their own ramps/courses but people complain and the council come and fill the holes in. I think it’s great that they have the enthusiasm, even if our shovels do keep going missing. Such a shame we have all these young boys that are interested in biking and there’s nothing for them”
Another parent said “My son would really benefit from this facility, as would his peers. It would give them somewhere to go and spend their time productively and keep them from hanging round. I would love them to improve their skills in this sport and have somewhere to practice.”
Once the survey has close and Evolve Penrith have all the feedback processed, they have said they plan to publish the results along with all potential sites, designs and look at the funding options that may include some form of crowdfunding contribution “making the pump track a real community owned asset” the spokesperson for Evolve Penrith added.
As part of exploring the options and demand for a pump track the group are asking for the wider community to share their thoughts on creating a Pump Track in the town via a short online survey at https://goto.penrith.town/Penrith-Pump-Track-Survey
The survey by Evolve Penrith is open until 5pm on the 19th September 2024
