Penrith residents have raised complaints after been landed with parking tickets issued to residents parking on Roper Street and Victoria Road over the last week.
Some residents who have lived in the area for almost two decades and never had tickets until now, received two parking tickets over the last week for parking on their rown street with a valid resident permit
Residents who received the parking tickets when parking in the resident parking bays had challenged the fines issued by the council only to find the challenge been rejected by the council.
When residents contacted Westmorland and Furness council regarding parking signs needing to be updated if the resident parking provision has indeed changed. The council responded saying the matter was a Highways issue and the resident should contact the local highways authority.
Residents were as a result left facing the prospect of paying the outstanding parking fines issued by the council that would double in price if not paid within 14 days of been issued.
After further communications with the council regarding the tickets issued to residents the council agreed that the “fines were issued in error” and the tickets have now been cancelled along with the penalty fines for residents that spoke with Penrith.Town about the situation.
In response to the situation the council has told residents they have have “highlighted a staff training issue” regarding the town’s residents parking and enforcement of parking.
Its not know if all tickets issued to residents in the effected resident permit area have been cancelled or just those that have challenged the tickets issued.
The council have been approached for comment on the situation.
