Penrith Autism Charity Triple A Project Receives £1,500 Donation from Barratt Homes

A Penrith charity dedicated to supporting those with autism has received a funding boost of £1,500 from Barratt Homes to support its essential services.

Triple A Project was established 10 years ago in February 2016 by a grandparent of a young person with autism. The charity helps those with autism share their experiences, make friends and navigate through life. This is done via a number of different projects, including the Navigator Programme which matches a beneficiary with a mentor to build on existing strengths and carve a path forward.

The Penrith based charity, also runs a variety of social groups across the county for autistic adults to meet, socialise and share their experiences. These groups currently take place in Penrith, Carlisle, Whitehaven, Maryport, Kendal, Barrow and virtually.

Sheila Gregory, Chair of Trustees at Triple A Project, said: “We were delighted to receive this donation from Barratt Homes. Triple A Project was founded to improve opportunities for autistic people in the area and to give the wider community a better understanding of neurodivergent people.

“The organisation has grown over the last 10 years and now provides a number of programmes, community clubs and groups which range from workshops for those newly diagnosed, inclusive at-work projects and dealing with mental health issues.

“We have around 200 service users and 15 staff members across Cumbria. Most of our staff and volunteers are neurodivergent themselves, which helps build confidence with our users as they share and understand the same issues. The £1,500 donation is most welcome and will be used towards our community clubs and work.”

According to the National Autistic Society, more than one in 100 people in the UK will have a form of autism, representing at least 700,000 people, many of whom are likely to be undiagnosed. Charities such as the Triple A Project can help provide guidance to those with autism, lending a hand to those that may be struggling and creating an in-depth network to improve support throughout the region.

The donation from Barratt Homes was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is run by its parent company, Barratt Redrow. It is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the areas in which the housebuilder operates.

The Barratt Redrow Foundation is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2026. Since its launch, it has committed £20 million to charities and good causes, supported over 2,000 different charities, and is estimated to have directly impacted 100,000 young people each year.

Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We are proud to support the Triple A Project as it continues to assist neurodivergent people in Cumbria. It offers much needed support for many people and we are pleased to hear of the vast number of projects it is running.

“We wish the charity all the best with its future activities and growth, and encourage all who are able to support such a worthy cause to do so.”
