Paddy Sets off on 300 mile Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge for BBC Children in Need.

Earlier today, Radio 2 presenter, Paddy McGuinness, set off on his Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge for BBC Children in Need.

Paddy will be attempting to cycle 300 miles from Wrexham AFC to Glasgow on a Raleigh Chopper, and already has people lining the streets as he left Wrexham this morning.

Zoe Ball on her Radio 2 Breakfast Show spoke to Paddy and set him off on his way North that will include passing through Penrith on Wednesday.

Before setting off on his challenge, Paddy spoke to Dot Davies and James Williams from BBC Radio Wales about what it was like to train with Sir Chris Hoy.

"It's like being a football fan and having a kickabout with Messi.  If you're a cyclist you'd give your right arm to train with him. He's so inspiring he gets me through the days when were out training and he's just a pleasure to be around."

He went on to explain why he chose the chopper bike for his challenge. "I could never afford one always wanted one its iconic I love the shape of it. That's going to be the star of the show, kids are going to love this, and then the mums and dads can sort of have the rose tinted spectacles on and take themselves back to their own childhoods."

Paddy is currently heading North on the A59 towards Preston where he will take break overnight before starting fay two that will take him to Blackpool and on to Kendal.

On Wednesday Paddy will depart Kendal heading North along the A6 towards Penrith.

Paddy will ride through Shap and Clifton before heading into Penrith along Bridge Lane and up along King Street before passing by the iconic town centre Musgrave monument and on up Castlegate and down Brunswick Road and up along Scotland Road out to Stoneybeck roundabout.

Paddy will then head over Junction 41 of the M6 and on to Carlise via Calthwaite after a trip through Carlisle Paddy will head via Gretna Green to Ecclefechan for a well-earned overnight rest.
