From March 2026, North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) will be introducing the first phase of a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system called Miya Precision.
This marks the start of Phase 1 of the trusts go‑live programme, which will continue over the next year as they gradually move from paper records to digital records.
A spokesperson for the trust said “You are unlikely to notice any changes during your hospital visit, and you do not need to do anything differently”.
For many years, NCIC has relied on paper records that are physically transported between sites by vans, porters and internal teams - a system that can sometimes make it harder for authorised clinical staff to access information as efficiently as they would like.
The trusts new EPR will allow authorised clinical staff to securely access patient health information on NCIC laptops and iPads, wherever they are in the Trust. This will support safer, faster and more coordinated care.
The way North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust store and manage your information is changing, but the purpose remains the same: to support patient care.
Patient information will continue to be handled securely and in line with data protection law with patients unlikely to notice any difference during hospital visits.
Over the coming months, the trust teams will be getting used to new digital ways of working.
Most patients will not see any change. However, they may occasionally see staff using a new system on their laptops and iPads, and some tasks may take slightly longer at first as they familiarise themselves with the new system.
The trust said “This upgrade is an important step toward a more modern, efficient and joined‑up NHS in North Cumbria. It will help our clinicians spend more time focusing on you and less time searching for paper notes”.
If you have any questions about how your information is used by North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust you can speak to a member of staff at the trust at any time.
