Fire crews from Penrith Fire Station were called out early on Saturday morning to a large fire involving a caravan and a tractor.

While the sky was still filled with the dancing lights of the Aurora overhead the flames and smoke of the fire was visible on the horizon as fire fighters approached the scene.

Just before 1am today both appliances from Penrith were mobilised to reports of a large fire in the open near Temple Sowerby.

En route to the fire further calls to 999 confirming that this fire was involving one Caravan, one LGV carrying a Tractor and a large quantity of general rubbish.

On arrival the fire crews committed 2 fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus with 2 hose reel jets initially then moved onto compressed air foam to fully extinguish the fire with fire crews at the scene for just over 2 hours.
