A decision on a new solar farm has been deferred for a second time by councillors at a meeting in Kendal today (Wednesday 4th February).
Members of the Westmorland & Furness Council’s strategic planning committee had been asked to consider the planning application with a recommendation to approve the plans for a second time after councillors deferred a decision last month pending a site visit.
As well as the installation of the proposed solar farm it includes associated ancillary works on land at Devonshire Square in Calthwaite.
It is being placed before the committee because the application is considered to be of considerable wider public interest and the application comprises a form of renewable energy development which covers an area greater than five hectares.
Despite having already deferred a decision on the application and hearing from those opposing the plans and the applicant councillors voted to again defere a decision until an independent assessment of the land classification was carried out with a report to be presented at a future strategic plan committee for councillors to again consider if to approve or refuse the plans.
