Westmorland and Furness Council cancelled at scheduled Eden planning committee meeting on Wednesday (13th November) after the council claimed it had no planning applications ready to be considered.
Despite the council currently have 54 planning applications in Penrith alone awaiting a planning decision with some applications submitted to the council over 12 months ago and some still awaiting a decision originally submitted to the former Eden District Council before April 2023.
Westmorland and Furness Council has established a planning committee for the former Eden Distrcit area to deter in planning applications in the area alongside a strategic committee that considers bigger development planning applications across the Westmorland and Furness District.
Across the former Eden Distrcit area Westmorland and Furness Council has hundreds of applications still awaiting a planning decision.
Including housing developments and even an application for the council it’s self for Voreda House still awaking a decision submitted by the council to its self in early June thins year.
The Eden Area Development Manager for Inclusive and Green Growth Thriving Places that includes the planning department at Westmorland and Furness Council said “The November Eden Area Planning Committee has had to be cancelled because there are no planning applications that are ready to be presented for determination at that committee As there is no business for the committee members to consider there is no purpose in running that committee as there will be nothing on the agenda.”
It has also emerged that a number of staff from the planning department have left the council recently including consultants who’s contracts have not been renewed when they expired.
