Campaigners are celebrating this morning after government announced that Penrith will as part of a local government boundary review once again become part of Cumberland restoring the historic county boundry of Cumberland.
Penrith became part of Westmorland and Furness on the 1st April 2023 when the former county council and Eden Distrcit council where scrapped in the local government reorganisation that create the new unitary councils.
Protests began in Penrith on vesting day of the new council and lobbying of government has continued since to return Penrith to Cumberland.
As part of the boundary change plans Voreda House will have £8.5 million spent on a refurbishment to become the new headquarters of Cumberland restoring Penrith as the Cumberland County Town.
