Busy weekend for Penrith Mountain rescue volunteers rescuing Walkers and Dogs

The Penrith Mountain rescue volunteers have had a busy weekend with two call-outs on Saturday morning (28th September) the team were call-out at 10:15am after Cumbria Police had been contacted by a lone walker who reported that his dog (a six-year old Spaniel) had suffered a seizure whilst descending Cross Fell.

When the team arrived on scene, which was high up the fell on what they said was “quite rough ground”,

The mountain rescue team found the dog unresponsive and very cold.

Despite the isolated location the Penrith Mountain rescue team were able to video call a local vets to get their help and advice.

The dog was stretchered back down the fell by the team and then taken to the vets for treatment.

The six-year old Spaniel was on Sunday morning recovering and back conscious and eating following treatment.

The rescue involved 10 team members in the 5 hours rescue operation.

 

The Penrith Mountain Rescue team were back out on Sunday afternoon (29th September) after Keswick Mountain Rescue team contacted the Penrith team for assistance with callout on Blencathra at 14:07.

The call for assistance was made after Keswick Mountain Rescue had received 3 callouts in a little over an hour.

The Penrith Mountain Rescue team were called out to rescue a walker who had slipped descending Blease Fell and was unable to weight bear on his left ankle.

The team made their way up the fell and, following an assessment by a team doctor, his limb was splinted, and he was stretchered back down to the road.

5 members of the Keswick Mountain Rescue team assisted 13 members of the Penrith Mountain Rescue team in the 3 hour rescue.
