New average Speed cameras to enforce 40mph and lane closures on the A66 where among items councillors receiving a briefing from National Highways and their contractors about works on the A66 upgrade where told about on Wednesday evening at a meeting of the Eden Locality board meeting at Redhills.
Councillors raised concerns about the need to communicate plans to the public ahead of further works to clear trees on Kemplay Roundabout before they are cut down and communicate plans for each stage of the upgrad works.
National Highways told councillors one current issue they are working to resolve is the relocation of a sewer main that runs across the A66 at Kemplay that will require some long term lane closures to allow the relocation of the sewer main ahead of the worm to create the new Kemplay underpass begins.
Questions around the housing of workers on the A66 had also been raise.
National Highway briefed councillors on plans to introduce permanent average speed cameras on the A66 around Penrith to enforce the 40mph speed limits on the road that will remain on the section of road once the upgrade is completed.
The Secratery of state for transport this week also signed off on a series of chiefs to the A66 upgrade plans including parts of the road at a Kemplay to enable the construction of the new Kemplay underpass that wil, carry the A66 under the A6 and a new round out that will be constructed with two bridges across the A66 with the complete removal of the current roundabout island and trees and utilities infrastructure that runs under the roundabout.
