The 2024 Penrith May Day Carnival will take place on bank holiday Monday (Monday 6 May 2024).
The May Day Carnival will include a variety of activities including street stalls, funfair, musical entertainment, cultural demonstrations, static displays and a celebration of the May Queen.
The days events will get underway from 10am with the food fair opening along King street and the funfair in SandGate car park and Great Dockray.
The highlight of the day will take place from 1:25pm with the Procession of the May Queen along Middlegate with the crowning of the 2024 May Queen on the main stage located on Devonshire Street at 2pm.
The entertainment will continue through until 5:30pm with the funfairs open until 7pm on Monday.
To enable the event to take place the town centre roads will be closed between 6am and 7pm on Monday.
The entire length of Little Dockray, The entire length of Market Square, A6 (which includes Middlegate, Devonshire Street, Market Square and King Street), from the junction with the A6 and Brunswick Road to the junction with King Street and Old London Road.
Alternative Route is via Portland Place, Meeting House Lane, Benson Row, Friargate, Old London Road, Roper Street.
Also The entire length of Great Dockray. Burrowgate from its junction with Middlegate extending in a north easterly direction for a distance of approx.145m.
The entire length of Rowcliffe Lane.The entire length of Corn Market. The entire length of Princes Street.
Great Dockray Carpark and SandGate will also be used for hosting the funfairs.
