The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for strong winds for all parts of Cumbria overnight with the warning forecasting 60mph gusts that could bring 'dangerous conditions' in some areas.
Forecasters said the weather could cause difficult driving conditions, travel disruption, flooding, and power cuts and urged people to "stay safe", particularly in coastal areas.
The Met Office warning says "gusts will be strong enough to blow over a few trees, given that they are currently in full leaf".
"A spell of very strong southwesterly winds will occur during the early hours of Thursday, easing from the west during the morning.
"Gusts of 50mph are likely fairly widely with some gusts of 60mph in exposed locations”.
The yellow weather warning is in place from 1am on Thursday Morning until 9am with heavy rain also forecast overnight into Thursday morning.
The Met Office has said people should expect some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport, with some journeys taking longer.
There is also the risk of short-term loss of power and other services.
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes are also likely with a strong wind warning already in place on the A66 for high sided vehicles.
