Councillors from Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council will hear at a meeting on Tuesday that Westmorland and Furness Council has to hand over a cash payment of £1.041 million to Cumberland Council. The amount is made up of an overspend on the costs of providing joint hosted services run by Cumberland Council for both councils and an underspend on services delivered by Westmorland and Furness Council on behalf of Cumberland Council.
A current draft overspends by Cumberland Council for delivery of services including the Cumbria wide coroner services and other services delivered under an Inter Authority Agreement including finance services, adoption services, HR payroll services and IT totalling and overspend by Cumberland Council of over half a million.
The joint executive committee made up of leaders from both councils will meet on Tuesday at the Civic Centre in Carlisle to receive a joint report from finance officers of both councils on the financial situation of joint services delivered by both councils.
The joint executive committee will also be asked to note a report on updates to the inter authority agreement for the 21 services still delivered across both councils with Westmorland and Furness Council delivering just 6 of those and Cumberland Council responsible for deliver of the remaining 15 joint services.
The committee will also be updated on work to split the remaining joint services so that each council will take responsibility for the services in the two-council district along with plans for some services to remain long term as shared delivery between Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council.
