Two Youths Started Fire that could have Caused Explosion in Penrith

Officers from the Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team were patrolling hotspot areas for anti social behaviour on Thursday evening when they came across two youths that had started a fire on Castletown Rec.

Two youths ran off on seeing the police van approaching. officers then discovered the fire had two aerosol cans of de-icer either side of it, which would have exploded if the fire was not extinguished.

Eden police said: “The fire service were called and extinguished the fire making the area safe for residents. This incident could have caused serious injury or damage had the aerosols exploded.”

Castletown Rec area has seen an increasing number of fire related incidents and police are asking parents “do you know where your child is”
