Penrith Town Council held its first Great Penrith Picnic event at Castle Park on Saturday (4th July). The inaugural event brought together local community, voluntary and sports organisations for a relaxed day of family activities, live entertainment. Despite the met office forecast for rain weather the weather held up throughout the day, allowing visitors to make the most of one of Penrith’s most popular green spaces.
The event provided an opportunity for residents to discover local clubs, groups, activities and volunteering opportunities, while enjoying free entertainment and spending time with family and friends. Feedback from those attending was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the friendly atmosphere and the chance to meet local organisations in a relaxed setting.
Cllr Barbara Jayson, Chair of Penrith Town Council’s Communities Committee, said:
“We are delighted with the success of the first Great Penrith Picnic. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the day and making connections with local groups and organisations.”

The Great Penrith Picnic forms part of Penrith Town Council’s commitment to delivering free, inclusive community events and helping residents connect with opportunities available across the town. Penrith Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended, took part and supported the event.
