Fire crews from Penrith and Shap were called out on Sunday (29th September) night around to reports of a barn on fire near Shap.
On arrival the crews found a well-developed fire in a barn.
Crews worked through the night to extinguish the fire but were unable able to save the barn itself but successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining house.
Cumbria Police attended with fire crews and on entering the premises, a large cannabis farm was discovered suspected to contain approximately 100 plants before the fire, with 22 remaining when the fire was put out.
An investigation is ongoing, and officers would ask anyone with any information relating to the incident to contact police.
