A large police presence in Castletown around the Castletown play area and neighbouring streets on Wednesday caused concerns and rumours to fly among local residents.
Cumbria Police have confirmed that it had an increased police presence in Castletown yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 31st July)
Members of the local community had taken to social media with a number of rumours circulating about the nature of the incident leading to police issuing a statement about the incident to prevent inaccurate information from causing concerns among the community.
Officers in the area had observed some suspicious activity around an address in the area, resulting in a male making off from officers.
Multiple officers attended the area to assist in searching for the outstanding male, who was located. An address nearby was also searched, in connection with the incident.
A 22 year old male was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs. He has been released on bail and the investigation is ongoing.
The Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team have said they “take a zero-tolerance to anyone involved in drug supply in our community”.
