Police and Gas Engineers Still on Scene following Town Centre Gas Leak

A police cordon was put in place in the Market Square and Cornmarket this afternoon following a report of a gas leak at a property.

Police said despite the cordon being put in place the gas leak did not pose any risk to the public.

Police and Fire crew responded to the call along with Gas engineers who along with police are still at the property. 

Although the police cordon has been lifted and vehicles and pedestrians are moving about the area.

There are no reports of anyone hurt or affected by the gas leak although the Newcastle Building society currently remains closed.
