Penrith Schools Christmas Carol Concerts Returns For 2024

The remarkable Penrith Schools Carol Concert is back for 2024 at St Andrew’s Church, on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 December at 7pm.

This year is going to be bigger than ever with fourteen schools ranging from village primary schools through to Ulllswater Community College and Queen Elizabeth Grammar school taking part over the two evenings.

The schools will once again come together under the guidance of the Penrith Schools Music Association lead teacher Lynsey Wrightson (Director of Music, Hunter Hall School).

Over two nights, the choirs and congregations will collectively celebrate the coming of Christmas with nearly 30 hymns and carols – from rousing crowd-pleasers like ‘Once in Royal’ and ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ to classics such as ‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year’, these concerts are a wonderful way to usher in the Christmas spirit and support local schools.

All the proceeds from ticket sales go back into the participating schools, allowing them to help fund music in schools and inspire the next generation of budding musicians.

Lynsey Wrightson said “This is now the second generation of local children who are taking part in these school’s concerts. It’s a real privilege to work with them and witness just what wonderful performances they put on. It’s such a busy time of year and for so many schools to make this extra-curricular effort every year demonstrates just how much enjoyment the students get out of the concerts.”

Tickets are available online here at a cost of £5 for adults and £3 for children. Book online via https://goto.penrith.town/Schools-Christmas-Carol-Concerts

A food bank collection point will be open to welcome donations at each concert. The Monday 9th December performance is now sold out and Tickets for Tuesday 10th December are going fast.
