Penrith Lions Install their Annual Christmas Gift to the Town

It’s that time of year again, Christmas is fast approaching and today (Sunday 3rd November) Penrith Lions have installed their annual Christmas gift to the town in the shape of a fine specimen of Christmas Tree hand picked by the Penrith Lions from a plantation in Lazonby.

The tree was delivered by tractor fresh from the plantation to its new home for Christmas in Penrith in front of the Cornmarket Bandstand.

The volunteers from the Penrith Lions greeted the tree as it arrived this morning to be put in place to the sound of St Andrews Church bells as the volunteers manoeuvred the tree to line up with the small hole in the pavement in what appeared to be a well rehearsed procedure.

With a few pulling and a few pushing the tree slipped effortlessly from the trailer and into its upright position in the pavement on Cornmarket on Sunday Morning ready for decorating with lights ahead of the annual town light switch on event on Saturday the 16th of November.
