Penrith is hours away from sparkling as the annual Christmas lights switch on event takes place on Saturday afternoon from 2pm.
A festive day has been planned by Penrith BiD for the town for the Penrith Christmas Sparkle event on Saturday, (16th November).
The afternoon will featuring an array of live music, entertainment, and family-friendly activities. Including a variety of rides, stalls, and craft activities.
The fun begins at 2pm, when Santa will be making appearances around the town ahead of the live performances starting at 2.30pm with Amy Anderson Walmsley, followed by the UCC Choir at 3pm, Cassette Baby at 3.30pm, and Committed 2 Rock at 4pm.
Shallows will keep the sparkle spirit going from 4.30pm, leading up to the Tractor+ Parade at 5pm, The parade will pass through The Marketplace, Cornmarket, Great Dockray, Princes Street, King Street will be so spectacular they will do it twice so the crowds can get a good look at the parade that will include tractors as well an array of other vehicles decorated for Christmas.
After the parade has completed its second lap of the town centre it will be time for the big switch on at 6pm.
Penrith’s Christmas lights will be turned on this year by at trio including two local volunteers, Tony Pears, Volunteer of the Year! The local litter-picking legend from Wombling Free Eden has been inspiring us all to keep Penrith & Eden clean one piece of litter at a time.
Alongside Tony pressing the big button to make Penrith sparkle will be Donna Mills, Penrithian of the Year. Donna is the powerhouse behind CRY for Eden, raising £75k to screen over 600 young hearts for cardiac risk.
Joining Tony and Donna for the big switch on will be the big man himself, Yes Santa will complete the trio to switch on the Penrith Christmas lights at 6pm.
The town has an array of lights installed by Penrith BiD including three centre piece light displays, Two star’s and a Christmas Present located around town centre and two Christmas trees that will all bring the festive spirit to Penrith as the lights sparkle once again in Penrith on Saturday night.
The Penrith Christmas Lights and Sparkle event has once again been made possible with sponsorship by the Events Headline Sponsor The Leo Group alongside funding from Penrith Town Council and Penrith BiD.
There will be opportunities to donate to support various charitable organisations through thr day, The Lions Club of Penrith will be gathering donations for Children in Need, and Cumbria Blood Bikes will also be present, offering you the chance to support their vital work across Cumbria.
The proceeds from the parade entries will be donated to Penrith Mountain Rescue by Penrith BiD.
