Fire crews from Penrith were called on to assist Shap fire crew on Sunday (29th September) night around 23:20 one appliance from Shap and one from Penrith were mobilised to a building fire just outside Shap.
En route to the incident Shap’s officer in charge gathered further details on the fire from the member of the public that had reported the fire.
After gathering additional information on the location and using local knowledge of the area the officer in charge knowing there was poor access to this incident and poor water supplies in the area requested a further appliance from Penrith that was dispatched to assist.
On arrival the crews were met on scene by a well-developed fire in a barn.
Crews worked through the night to extinguish the fire but were unable able to save the barn itself but successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining house.
