Penrith could be getting a visit from another famous bear this week.
On Monday morning, Paddy McGuinness sets off on Radio 2’s Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge for BBC Children in Need. Paddy will be attempting to cycle 300 miles from Wrexham to Glasgow on a Raleigh Chopper!
On Wednesday 13th November, Paddy McGuiness and the BBC Pudsy crew will be cycling through town on his journey North along the A6 as part of Paddy’s Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge cycling 300miles between Wrexham to Glasgow for Children in Need.
Paddy will start his Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge during the Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Monday 11 November and will pedal almost 300 miles, starting in Wrexham.
The route will take him through eight counties – Flintshire, Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire - including a stop at Preston, where this year's Radio 2 in the Park took place in Moor Park – onto Westmorland, Cumberland, Dumfriesshire and Lanarkshire, aiming to finish on the morning of Friday 15 November in Glasgow.
Speaking in the challenge Paddy said: “I’ll be cycling from Wrexham to Glasgow. That’s 300 miles, eight counties and three nations. ‘No likey, no bikey’ just isn’t an option! As a kid, I didn’t have much and used to be really jealous of my mates riding around on those bikes, so I’m really honoured to support BBC Children in Need by getting peddling to raise as much money as possible for the charity. After seeing Vernon’s incredible efforts last year... no pressure then!”
We also had a word with Pudsey this week to let him know a distant cousin of his is in town enjoying his marmalade sandwiches.
Paddy won’t be taking on this challenge on just any bicycle... he will attempt to complete the route on an iconic, BBC Children in Need customised and modified, Raleigh Chopper bike.
Children at Clifton Primary School will be taking up Paddy’s challenge for everyone to get on their bike with a Children in Need wheeled fund raising challenge - cycling and scootering around the playground to achieve a collaborative total distance. To cheer them on the school will be getting a visit from Pudsey Bear himself and Giant the Gladiatior will be popping into the school as part of Paddy’s Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge as Paddy himself whizzes past en-route from Wrexham to Glasgow on his Raleigh Chopper bike.
Penrith.Town will bring updates on Paddy and Pusey as they head North towards Penrith from Monday along with expected times on Wednesday that Paddy and Pudsey will be passing through Penrith so the community cheer them on.
Who knows maybe Paddy and Pudsey might pay another famous bear a visit as they pass through.
