Met Office update Storm Bert Forecast and Warnings for Cumbria

The Met Office has updated its multiple weather warnings across the UK with just one yellow weather warning now remaining in place for Cumbria and the North of England and south of Scotland.

The yellow weather warning is in force until 9am Sunday for snow on Saturday, followed by a rapid thaw and subsequent rain on Saturday night through into Sunday morning,

The outbreaks of rain will spread northeastwards on Saturday afternoon, preceded by a spell of snow across parts of northern England and Scotland. Whilst snow will become increasingly confined to higher elevations with time, there is the chance of a transient period of snow to low levels in some areas, with perhaps as much as 5-10 cm accumulating in places, before turning back to rain.

The rapid thaw and rain may cause some localised flooding and travel disruption.

Other parts of the UK are still facing strong winds over the next 12 hours with an amber warning for strong winds from Storm Bert in the north of Scotland and Yellow warnings for winds in the South West and Wales.

For Cumbria the worst of the forecast snow and winds of Storm Bert appears to have passed with just heavy rain and cold conditions ahead for Cumbria.

Cumbria Police are warning drivers to take extra care when driving as spray and potential flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions.

National Highways currently still has a full closure in place on the A66 between Scotchcorner and Penrith.

Avanti Rail services remain cancelled North of Preston.
