Medical Centre Closed as Not Structurally Safe Due to “Significant Incident”

Shap Medical Centre has been forced to close today (Friday 8th May) after what the medical practice has said was “a significant incident at the surgery this afternoon”.

Emergency services have been involved after a vehicle crashed into the build causing significant structural damage making the building unsafe.

The practice said “Unfortunately for the time being we have been informed the surgery is not structurally safe.  Therefore we cannot allow patients on site.”

The Shap Medical Practice are working to continue delivering care to patients as much as possible but have told patients If they have an urgent need for care or medication to contact 111 or visit the Penrith urgent treatment centre.

The building remains with a police and fire corden around it with the side of the building now secured after the vehicle was removed from the scene but large cracks in the building have resulted in the building been closed and declared structurally unsafe at this time.
