A man has been charged by officers from Westmorland & Furness' Neighbourhood Support Team following a vehicle stop which uncovered 39kg of cocaine near Penrith on Wednesday (3 June).
Courtney Gaston-Hird, 34, of Sandholme Lane, Lincoln, has been charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug after officers stopped his vehicle.
After a short foot pursuit, Gaston-Hird was arrested and officers then carried out a search of his vehicle.
They uncovered 39 'blocks' white powder which subsequent testing confirmed to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of nearly £4 million - placing it as one of the most significant drug seizures in Cumbria to date.
He appeared before Barrow Magistrates Court on today (5 June).
The seizure forms part of forms part of Operation Alliance - Cumbria Constabulary's ongoing response to protect the county against serious and organised crime.
