M6 Northbound Overnight Closure On Sunday Night between Shap and Penrith

National Highways are closing the northbound carriageway of the M6 between junction 39 and 40 overnight on Sunday 14 June, from 10pm to 5am.

The closure will allow Network Rail to safely remove the temporary safety barrier on the motorway.

Following this work, the speed limit through the roadworks will be 50mph along the full stretch. Speed enforcement cameras will also be removed.

During the closure a clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A6, with temporary speed reduction measures installed along the route.

National Highways will maintain access for emergency vehicles through the closure where possible.

National Highways have apologised for any inconvenience the closure may cause.

Although the restrictions for the railway replacement are been lifted restrictions on the M6 will remain until spring 2027 due to the ongoing work to refurbish Lowther Bridge.
