Four men have been arrested following a report of an ongoing shoplifting incident at Sainsbury’s in Penrith.
Police were called on Tuesday evening following reports of a group of males suspected of being involved in the incident.
Officers from Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and Section 4 Response were among the first to arrive at the scene. With assistance from members of the public, officers were directed towards a group of males believed to be involved.
The response was then supported by officers from Cumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit, Rural Crime Team and Dog Section, along with an on-duty Chief Inspector and an off-duty Chief Inspector.
The coordinated response resulted in a fourth suspect being located and arrested at Penrith Train Station.
All four men were taken into custody while police enquiries continue.
Police say approximately £3,000 worth of goods have been recovered.
Cumbria Police also shared footage of officers chasing one of the individuals during the incident, highlighting what officers described as his “100% record at foot chases”.
The incident demonstrates the range of police resources that can be brought together quickly when officers respond to an ongoing incident in Penrith.
