Fly-Tipping partially Blocks Penrith road

Fly tippers have dumped a large amount of rubbish in a gateway to a field on Mile Lane West of Penrith.

The items that included kitchen appliances appeared overnight with the items dumped also partially blocking the road causing issues for vehicles travelling along the road.

Concerned motorists who sent us the photos this morning have reported the fly tipping obstruction to Cumbria Police.

Fly tipping is an offence that can see the council issue a fixed penalty notice to anyone who it believe has fly-tipped. Prosecution for fly-tipping carries a fine of up to £95,000 (unlimited if taken through the Crown Court) or an offender can be sent to prison or have their vehicle seized.

Update: 13:30 Penrith.Town have liaised with Westmorland and Furness Highways out of hours emergency team who have worked to clear the large items to remove the highways obstruction but due to the nature of some of the material dumped including bodily fluids among the waste the rest of the material will be cleared by a Westmorland and Furness Council specialist team after the Bank Holiday weekend.
