The Head Chef and remaining chefs from the George and Dragon in Clifton will be serving up their final meals at the Clifton pub on Sunday (11th August).
Head Chef Gareth Webster has been with the business for seven years Gareth and announced his departure last week along with the other remaining chef's follwoing other departures, Gareth said “I’d personally like to say a big thankyou to all current and former colleagues as well as all the wonderful customers who I’ve served over the past 7 years at the G&D and also the Queen's Head Askham. It’s been an absolute pleasure and privilege.”
The George and Dragon has said “Many Thanks, to Connor, Thom, James and head chef Gareth for putting on a brilliant array of food for everyone who stepped through the door in the past few years. We wish you all the best of luck with your future cooking careers.”
It has emerged that staff at the George and Dragon have been told the owners of the business Ciel Hotels Ltd plan to put the George and Dragon up for sale within the next few months leading to and anxious time for staff at the award winning pub that won Pub of the Year at the Cumbria Tourism Awards 2024 in July.
The Geroge and Dragon reopened in June 2023 following extensive rebuilding following a fire in 2023 that caused extensive damage closed the business for a year.
Ciel Hotels Ltd also owns Askham Hall and the Queens Head at Askham and recently announced plans to reopen Sharrow Bay Hotel on the shore of Ullswater in 2025.
The business remains open and the company has said news “about the new team entering the kitchen” at the Geroge and Dragon will be announced soon.
