Councillors Praise Officers as Penrith’s £170,000 Wayfinding Project Nears Completion

Penrith Town Council councillors have praised officers for their work delivering the town’s new £170,000 wayfinding signage project, with the scheme now moving towards completion.

Members of the town councils planning committee were given an update this week on progress, with councillors told that the final stages of installation are now underway.

The towns original information panels have largely been removed, while the new fingerpost signs are starting to appear across the town. All of the new sign poles have now been installed, with contractors working to fit the directional panels that will help guide people around Penrith.

The new information boards and totem signs are due to arrive this week, with installation planned over the next few weeks to complete the town council’s wayfinding project funded by the Borderlands Growth fund.

Councillors were told that work has also started on the new town gateway signs that will welcome visitors arriving into Penrith, with groundworks already underway at the locations where they will be installed.

The town council expects the work to be completed by Friday 7th August, although a further contingency week has been allowed.

The update prompted praise from councillors, who highlighted the work carried out by council officers in bringing the project forward.

The Chair told members: “That’s quite impressive, isn’t it?” before thanking officers for the “tremendous amount of effort” they had put into getting the project to what appears to be a successful conclusion.

Councillors agreed that their thanks should be formally recorded, with one member saying they wanted the appreciation expressed “in the highest possible terms”.
