Child Shot in firearm incident on Warcop farm

A child believed to be eight has been rushed by air ambulance to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being involved in a firearm incident on farm land located alongside the A66.at Warcop.

Emergency services were called at just before 3pm to a farm at Warcop this afternoon, (Saturday September 28), following a report that a child had been seriously injured by a firearm.

Cumbria Police and Ambulance Service rushed to the scene joined just after 3pm by the Air Ambulance mediccal teams worked on the child at the scene he was flown to hospital by air ambulance having suffered life-threatening injuries to his head.

Officers arrested a man in his sixties at the scene and he remains in police custody tonight.

Following the departure of the air ambulance, rushing the child to hospital Cumbria police crime scene investigators moved in to secure the scene and fire arm and begin investigating the scene.
