Following the publication by Westmorland and Furness council of its review of the Voreda House project and the catalog of coverups and failures by the leadership and final administration of Eden District Council.
Calls from former councillors and members of the community for the former Eden Council leader who now holed a cabinet post on Westmorland and Furness Council to resign along with other former Eden council cabinet members who now serve on the new council have been made.
A peacefully protest had been called for Sunday outside Voreda House to call for the resignation of Cllr Taylor. However following the met office weather warning for Sunday for frequent lightning the protest has been postponed until Saturday 7th September at 3pm.
Mr David Ryland a former Eden District Councilor said “As a previous member of Eden council I believe a personal apology should be made by Cllr Virginia Taylor to all previous members for misleading us plus she should be stripped of her current cabinet position in the new council or are the Liberal Democrat’s as bad as the reds and blues for giving apologies out”
Westmorland and Furness councillor Bell has said “Scrutiny should shoulder some of the responsibility.” “where was the audit committee…”
Former Town Councillor Jeff Thomson has said “Virginia Taylor should go. They have let the town down badly.”
Local Businesses Man Dan Harding said “I not only call for the resignation of Virginia Taylor and Mary Robinson but some jail time too for their corruption and wasting of our council moneys meaning Penrith and Eden suffers.”
Cllr Taylor when previously challenged on failures of her administration and calls to resign as the then Leader of Eden Council said “I have no intention of resigning, this is a successful administration. Thank you.”
The Westmorland and Furness Council report into the delivery of the Voreda House project focused on the Eden Council period of the project and uncovered failure and withholding of the true valuation of the building resulting in an above market value paid for the building along with no business case developed or proper accountable and reporting of the project and spiralling costs.
