The effects of the US and Israel War with Iran are already
having a major impact on the global economy and the effects are already very visible
to drivers here in Penrith as fuel prices have rapidly increased over the last
week as the price of a barrel of oil passed $100 a barrel the price drivers
could fill their vehicles rapidly increased.
The RAC has warned that average petrol prices in the UK
could rise to 150p per litre, if oil prices remain at $100 per barrel.
Following the continued rise in the cost of oil, RAC head of
policy Simon Williams said:
“Average petrol and diesel prices have rocketed in the last
week and are unfortunately likely to keep on rising, so the situation for UK
drivers is looking increasingly bleak. Petrol is up 5p to 137.5p and diesel up
9p to 151p a litre since the current crisis began on Saturday 28 February.
“Unleaded is almost certainly going to reach an average of
140p in the next week or so while diesel looks highly likely to climb to at
least 160p a litre. The price of diesel is increasing more quickly now than at
any point since the start of the Ukraine conflict. With oil at a sustained
$100, petrol could rise towards 150p a litre - a price not seen since June
2024. Diesel could reach almost 180p, which would be a three-year high.
“We encourage drivers to continue filling up as normal but
to shop around for the best prices.”
There can be big local differences between forecourts with some
around 10p more expensive for diesel or petrol across the town.
Before fulling up you can shop around and find the current cheapest price of both Diesel and Petrol locally on our new Penrith.Town fuel map giving current fuel prices provided by each fuel station withing 30 mins of any price change.
Alongside the price for vehicle fuel rural households are
also facing a steap rise in the cost of heating fuel with prices having risen
for £300 to £1400 since the start fo the month for an average household with
oil heating.
As many rural households without mains gas are facing the
rapid rise in the cost of heating oil Markus Campbell-Savours MP for Penrith
and Solway has written to the Government to ask for help for the 14,715
households in the constituency who are off the gas grid.
People who live in rural areas and rely on oil to heat their
homes rather than gas already face bills of up to 40% more in ‘normal’ times.
