Another Town Centre Businesses Announces they are closing the doors due to rising costs

Another town centre shop has announces it’s closing its doors due to the continued rise in operating costs facing the business.

The Sands Cookware shop on Middlegate will be closing but the company plans to continue to provide a cookware department from its main shop across the road.

Ahead of the closure, from the 30th April the cookware shop will be having a huge clearance sale with opportunities to grab a bargain from the extensive range.

In a statement the business said “This has been a very difficult decision”.

The closure announcement comes as businesses in Penrith face a sharp rising business rates, and Bid levy charges alongside increased energy costs, staffing costs and less than a week after some town centre businesses have questioned the value of Penrith Bid and the compulsory Levy they must pay to fund the BiD as businesses Costs Rise Footfall decreases and shops sit empty in the town.

In response to the questioning over the current BID chairman said “The BID represents circa 400 businesses in Penrith” “Please do not try to compare our BID to some of the comments coming out of another new local BID. We are not the same”.

He added that Penrith BID “is not here to run individual businesses. We don’t exist to make an individual business better. We exist to make our town and town businesses (plural!) better by helping to make Penrith a better place to live, work and visit”.

With costs continuing to rise in business costs and more town centre businesses announcing they are closing their doors the number of vacant shops in the town centre continues to grow adding to continued decline in footfall for the remaining businesses in the town.
