The 41st Penrith Mayday Carnival organised by Penrith Lions was a different carnival this year, but once again drew the crowds into Penrith Town centre to enjoy the music, street entertainment and the fun fairs with highlight of the day the MayQueen parade down Middlegate to the stage on Devonshire Street were the 2024 May Queen arrived in style in a Rolls Royce to be crowned the 41st Penrith May Queen.
The days events have taken place following weeks of planning and work by the volunteers at the Penrith Lions with the support of other local groups and organisations including Penrith Town Council who have all worked to ensure the 41st May Day Carnival was held in the town.
The days events were spread across the town centre with Middlegate hosting a display of old vehicles and tractors along with the May Queens parade leading down into Devonshire street where the main stage was located, Local charity organisations had stalls showcasing their organisations along CornMarket leading on to the live bands playing at the bandstand. Turning the corner into Great Dockray, Taylor’s funfair had a big wheel and other rides. Along King street a handful of food stalls were on hand to help people lighten their wallets in exchange for a range of street foods and treats they had on offer.
