Penrith AFC top scorer Luke Hunter has completed a move to AFC Fylde, leaving Penrith AFC to pursue a full-time career in football.
AFC Fylde confirmed the signing of the 24-year-old forward on Friday. Hunter arrives at Mill Farm ahead of this weekend's National League North clash with Buxton.
Hunter is a former teammate of Coasters defender Liam Brockbank, with the pair previously featuring together at Carlisle United. He spent time in the Carlisle academy from Under-9s to Under-16s before returning to Penrith, where he had spent his junior days.
Speaking ahead of joining AFC Fylde, Hunter said:
“I’m buzzing to get the deal over the line and join AFC Fylde.
I’ve been down to watch the lads and playing in a stadium like this is something you can’t complain about.
I’ve never had a start to a season like I have this campaign, but I’m enjoying my football at the minute and hopefully I can come here, continue that form, and help the lads get some important points.”
AFC Fylde Head Coach Craig Mahon added:
“We’re delighted to welcome Luke to AFC Fylde.
He offers a different type of threat at the top end of the pitch, and his skill set is something which will be valuable to us in the coming weeks.
He’s been scoring goals for fun at Penrith, and we’re hoping he continues that form and confidence during his time with us.”
A spokesperson for Penrith AFC said:
“Everyone at the club is absolutely delighted for Luke. His hard work, talent, and commitment have earned him this opportunity, and we couldn’t be prouder to see him take this next step in his career. He has been a fantastic player for us, a brilliant teammate, and a credit to the club both on and off the pitch.”
“Of course, while we’re thrilled for him, we’re also disappointed for ourselves. Losing a player of Luke’s quality is never easy, and he’ll be greatly missed around the club. But he leaves with our full support, our gratitude, and our very best wishes for the future.”
AFC Fylde thanked Penrith AFC for their cooperation during the process and wished them all the best for the remainder of the season.
