Drivers Face Weeks of Disruption as A686 Closes From Monday Morning for Resurfacing Works

Westmorland and Furness Council will begin resurfacing works on the A686 in Carleton from Monday 2nd March, with works expected to last for upto 25 days and require road closures.

To carry out the resurfacing work Westmorland and Furness council have put in place a temporary traffic regulation for the A686 Carleton avenue, Carleton hill road, and Carleton road in that comes into force from Monday (2nd March) morning to enable highway works to be carried out.

The council says it “anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 25 days and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed”.

The council traffic order prohibits any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road: -

A686 Carleton Avenue, from its junction with the U3481, extending in a north easterly then easterly direction for approx. 790 metres.

Alternative Route: Via the unrestricted sections of the A686, Kemplay Roundabout, B6412 and the A66.

Carleton Hill Road, from its junction with the A686, extending in a north easterly direction to its junction with Ash Road.

Alternative Route: Via the unrestricted section of Carleton Hill Road, Beacon Edge and the unrestricted section A686.

Carleton Road, from its junction with the A686, extending in a north westerly direction to its junction with Frenchfield Way.

Alternative Route: Via the unrestricted section of Carleton Road, Roper Street, Victoria Road, and Bridge Lane (A6), Kemplay Roundabout, and the unrestricted section of the A686.

Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained.

National Highways will also be carrying out work between the 2nd of March and 11th April on Carleton Avenue from the Junction with Kemplay Roundabout along Carleton Avenue to the Junction with Pategill Road with traffic lights in operation for traffic management through the area of works. The national Highways works are anticipated to be only between the hours of 7pm and 6am daily.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys and to follow signed diversion routes.
