Work to repair fix drainage issues and flood damadge at Westmorland and Furness Councils Voreda House have resumed.
Voreda House was closed for a week in September after a leak caused by a faulty plumbing connection caused extensive flooding resulting in the first floor of the building still closed six months after the flooding.
The has been working to fix the water damage to the building but is now undertaking work to fix issues with its drainage that has plagues the building since it first opened following the rebuild. The working for fix the sewer pipes under the main council meeting room and parts of the ground floor are expected to take two months to complete.
The council has previously said it "work with third parties with a view to recouping repair costs." But has currently refused to say how much money it had spent to fix issues within the building.
Although a contract was awarded in January for £36,000 to deliver a project to design and the management of remedial works relating to water leak damage in Voreda House Penrith.
Westmorland and Furness Council said: "We are working through a process and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage."
The council anticipates that the works will be complete by late April/early May 2026, subject to any unforeseen circumstances emerging. The public areas of the building are expected to remain open and accessible during the works.
