Smarten Up on Fashion Choices Councillors To Be Told

Westmorland and Furness Council members are to be reminded about standards of dress expected of them when attending council meetings.

The reminder is set to come following complaints made by members of the public to Westmorland and Furness Council following an Eden area planning committee meeting when a councillor attended the meeting in what was described as scruffy old T-shirt and ripped jeans.

One of the complaints said “it’s a disgrace these people are elected to represent us and are paid thousands yet turn up to official meetings dressed like they are ready to weed the garden and it’s not the first time.”

Westmorland and Furness Council has said “The Chief Legal and Monitoring Officer is aware of the concerns and a reminder about expected standards of dress will be issued to all planning committee members shortly.”
